Prior to transitioning to the private Bar, Clare practiced in both Australia and the UK, having commenced her legal career in personal injury litigation in 2002 and going on to become admitted as a Solicitor in Queensland in 2010. Karen is a barrister in private practice specialising in litigation involving equity, trusts, wills and estates. Prior to her call to the Bar, she was a Queensland Law Society Accredited Specialist in succession law, attaining accreditation in 2013. Karen is particularly interested in estate litigation with a broader commercial focus, such as those concerning rural partnerships, trusts, and equitable remedies, such as undue influence and unconscionable conduct. In the conduct of litigation which often involves complex law and which is factually dense, Karen is known both for her strategic approach and her attention to detail. Amy Hayes is the Director of Licensing, Operations and Policy at the Queensland Law Society. Since beginning her legal career in Brisbane, Amy has developed expertise in legal services regulation (including AML/CTF frameworks), compliance and risk management across the United Kingdom and Australia. She has a strong, practical understanding of how AML/CTF obligations intersect with legal practice, particularly conveyancing, and has enjoyed assisting practitioners understand and mitigate the risks of facilitating financial crime. In the employment law sphere, Stephen acts for select clients across a full range of workplace relations, industrial relations and employment law matters ranging from front end enterprise bargaining strategizing to back end unfair dismissal and adverse action litigation, HR policy and procedure drafting to anti-bullying and harassment matters, and work health and safety compliance to Notifiable Incident notifications and prosecution defences. Stephen has been a committee member of the LAWASIA employment group for over 11 yrs. Stephen is a QLS Accredited Specialist (personal injuries) of over 25 years’ standing. He was elected to the Council of the Queensland Law Society in 2022 and is currently the 2026 President of the Society. Mathai Joshi is a Senior Associate at Connolly Suthers Lawyers based in Townsville, North Queensland, where he practices in criminal defence, domestic and family violence law, and regulatory law. Mathai is actively involved within the legal profession and is the current President of the QLS Future Leaders Committee and a member of the Access to Justice and Pro-Bono Committee. Emma is also a member of the Future Leaders Committee, which provides guidance and support to young and early career lawyers. The Hon Susan Kiefel AC served as the 13th Chief Justice of Australia from 2017 to 2023, the first woman to hold the nation’s highest judicial office. She was a member of the High Court of Australia for sixteen years, following earlier judicial appointments to the Supreme Court of Queensland, the Federal Court of Australia, and the Supreme Court of Norfolk Island. She was educated in Queensland and at the University of Cambridge, where she received a Master of Law. Admitted to the Bar in 1975, she became Queensland’s first female Queen’s Counsel in 1987. The Hon Susan Kiefel AC served as the 13th Chief Justice of Australia from 2017 to 2023, the first woman to hold the nation’s highest judicial office. Professor Ryan Ko is Chair Professor of Cyber Security and founding Centre Director of the UQ Cyber Research Centre at The University of Queensland. A Fellow of both the Australian Computer Society and the Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences, he has co-authored international standards, drafted New Zealand’s national cyber security curriculum, and established its first cyber security lab and national competition. Symposium 2026 continues to feature dedicated sessions for your area of practice, while also expanding the program with fresh topics and innovative formats. This gives you the chance to explore new ideas and broaden your professional knowledge. Delegates will earn 10 CPD points in total; 6 points from in-person sessions on the day and 4 points from an on-demand recording provided after the event. While the total amount of CPD points remains the same, we’ve adjusted the on the day points to 6 and the online delivery to 4, to create a more engaging experience during the live program, and to give you greater flexibility with additional on-demand content you can access in your own time. Splitting or sharing a registration is not allowed under any circumstance. Even if youm only want to attend part of Symposium you cannot share your registration with another delegate. **Can I register to attend just one session of Symposium?** No. Registrations for Symposium are for the full day, which covers attendance to the entire day’s program. Delegates cannot register to attend a single session or a half-day session. Standard registration is available until 5pm, Thursday, 5 March 2026, unless sold out prior. If you need to cancel your registration, please send your request via email to events@qls.com.au. If we receive your cancellation at least 7 days before the event (not including the event day), we'll refund your registration fee minus a 30% cancellation fee. If the cancellation request comes in 7 days or less before the event (again, not including the event day), unfortunately, we won’t be able to offer a refund.
